Thoughts and Prayer for Today

"Daily Spiritual Journey "

"According to what Jesus Christ Himself said, he who wishes to follow Him must deny himself, that is, deny his senses, mortify his passions, his will, his judgment and all his natural desires, for the love of God. These sacrifices are certainly very pleasing to God. We must never tire of offering them up if one should already have one foot in heaven-so to speak-and were to neglect this exercise for the period of time it would take to put his other foot in, he would be in danger of losing his soul!"
- St. Vincent de Paul

St. Albinus

Albinus was born into an ancient and noble family in Brittany. He was a pious child and when he was still young he entered the monastery of Tintillant against the wishes of his parents. Albinus embraced the austerities of monastic life and accepted doing the most humble chores without complaining.

Once he became bishop, Albinus worked for the greater good of his people, instructing them in their faith. With the support of King Childebert, he convened two councils at Orleans that condemned the incestuous marriages of many powerful families. When his diocese was raided by pagan invaders and countless citizens were taken into slavery, Albinus made very effort to ransom them while giving generously to the sick and the poor.
